Just came back from it, and I will now contribute to the spoilertalk.
Unspoilerable bit: The movie feels a bit overextended. It could be made 10 minutes shorter by tightening up the editing (i.e. there's a RIDICULOUS amount of scenes where Finn stares at stuff that only shows his face and that's it which last about ten seconds longer than they should).
Re: Rey is Luke's daughter. She's wearing what amounts to KotOR Jedi garb, she has a doll of a Rebel fighter pilot, she has visions of him leaving his flight path with R2D2 which seems connected to the vision of her being abandoned on Jakku. Also, it would make her the Luke to Kylo's Vader role.
Re: Ren is... problematic as a villain, but this also makes him effective, believable. Like the two troopers that see the aftershocks of a temper tantrum and, ignoring his orders, double back away from the room he's in. His Light-vs-Dark struggle is excitingly obvious. His hair tho... when he first unmasked, the entire movie theater I was in made a nervous awkward laugh, all as one.
Re: Finn. I love Finn as a protagonist. He's awesome. I'm also thinking that he's a latent Force user, since Order members are taken in at birth, "stolen from their families" and so on and so forth. Also, there's no way a non-Force-sensitive could use a lightsaber for as long as he has and not injure themselves with it.
Re: Solo. He's what in the RPGs we call a 'crutch character' and, overextended scene problem outlined above aside, his death is important to the plot.
Re: Snoak. If he's a clone of the Emperor, I'm gonna laugh till the end of whatever episode reveals that.
Now, unrelated thoughts:
1. Who's the guy that gives Poe the Luke map in the beginning of the movie? The way Poe and Ren interact with him made me feel that we're supposed to have recognized him from the OT like we did with Nien and Ackbar.
2. Why is there so little of Poe in there? He's kinda hot.
3. "Finn is into Poe" works as well as the "Luke is into Han" theory for the OT, and it's great. If only Poe and Rey have interacted just a little bit, I'd have my perfect OT3 for my wife to disapprove of (she's unfond of OT3s).
4. Is it just me or did the movie try to milk Rey's gainaxing for what small amounts there are to be had with Daisy Ridley's modest bust size?
5. WHAT HAPPENED TO PHASMA? Did they really chuck her into a trash compactor?
6. Did they really have to waste Lupita Nyongo on a CGI character?
7. What is with the overabundance of new races and shortage of canonical ones?
8. The final scenes with Luke feel unnecessary and tacked-on. They could be cut down easily to what we've had with the medical frigate scenes in ESB, starting with Rey and Chewie's departure (which it obviously homages).
Also, that brings me to another thought: isn't there a bit TOO much homage-to-new-content ratio in there?
