It's kind of interesting that this AI might have worked a lot better had Halo 4 not have happened. Instead, Halo 4 and its ancillary materials introduced a whole slew of new plot threads:
- New Covenant factions, most prominently Jul Mdama's with control over the Didact's forces and Dr. Halsey
- New Insurrection beginning, most prominently the New Colonial Alliance.
- A more corrupt ONI, becoming less subtle in dealing with bad PR situations.
- The Librarian's grand plan with Absolute Record and all that.
-The Triad, because why let the Covenant have all the fun with over zealous nutjobs?
You might notice that Halo 5 either nullifies or tosses away all of this, and I imagine it'll be very hard to tell stories about them while Cortana and her AI friends are taking over everything. I expected this stuff to at least be given some sort of lip service in the intel or something, but Halo 5 seems so divorced from everything else happening.
This may in itself be a reaction to the confusion that some had when playing Halo 4 and seeing the Elites shooting at you, references to other plotlines and just general confusion due to overloring during the period between Halo 3 and Halo 4.
Which makes it all the more hilarious that Halo 5 doesn't even solve that problem.
I also had a chance to check out the Fall of Reach Animated Series. To anyone who might be interested... Just read the book or the comic adaptation. This animated version is so abridged and abrupt as to miss the entire point of the original story, and the voice acting and animation do it no favors either.
