Halo 5 is getting a beta, at least. That's a good sign.
I have the utmost confidence in 343I to remake Halo 2, but I'm still quite unsure about what to think of their own take on Halo. I hope they prove me wrong.
I overall enjoyed Halo 4, but it was held back by three major problems:
1. The rush to get it out for Holiday 2012 forced major community features to be cut, making the overall experience feel very regressive
2. They were so concerned about nailing the "Halo Formula" that they forgot to ensure all the mechanics gelled well into a cohesive experience, even going so far as to implement certain features only half-way.
3. Relating to the above, Halo 4 always felt like it was trying to be everything to everybody instead of just trying to be a good Halo game, desperately wanting everybody to love it so much that it often forgot to love itself (Reach's multiplayer suffered from similar problems when 343I took over).
343I's hearts are definitely in the right place, but I finished Halo 4 completely lost as to what they wanted to do with the series. They have some great ideas, but didn't give any of them the proper attention to execute them to their fullest. I'm hoping with newer hardware and a clean break from Bungie's heritage (or as clean as it gets), we'll see them make the Halo game they want to make, not they think we want.
