The same is true for GG enclaves like KiA or 8chan. If you're on a message board or subreddit where everyone with a dissenting opinion has been banned or driven away, all you'll get is a constant feedback loop. The internet is very good in allowing people to "choose their own reality;" one book I read (I believe it was Dick Meyer's Why We Hate Us) described it as a form of "social Balkanisation."

GamerGate won't succeed for the same reason that MRAs, birthers, anti-vaxxers, and 9/11 truthers will never accomplish anything. They won't win because they are striving against an enemy that exists only in their heads. There is nothing you can say or do that will convince them that those windmills they're tilting at aren't giants in disguise. Like the aforementioned groups, they believe they've stumbled upon some "hidden truth" that everyone else is blind to, so when confronted with evidence that contradicts their position, the tendency is to double down on being wrong. How many Gators, for instance, know (or care) that the accusations against Zoe Quinn are completely false?

For that reason, there's no point in arguing with Gators. By this point, the ones who are left are not driven by rationality, but by paranoid conspiracy theories. Any attempt at refuting their bullshit is met with something like "You're wrong! Go watch this three-hour video!" (yeah right) followed by either moving the goalposts or being sealioned to hell and back.

Here's Jon Stewart mocking this sort of deranged, paranoid mentality. He's talking about Glenn Beck, but this sort of behaviour is rampant amongst Gators. (Stewart also remarked once that the Christian right has conflated "being oppressed" with "not being catered to all the time." Again, something completely applicable to GamerGate).
