None of that comes close to the meaning of 'exclusive'. Maybe I'm naive or just clinging to another understanding of the concept, but when I look at Street Fighter V, Tomb Raider, and even Bayonetta...
You know what, I understand that without money, games can't get made. Bayonetta 2 probably wouldn't have happened without Nintendo's help. Same with Street Fighter. Same with Tomb Raider. Trust me, I understand that. But when people casually throw the word 'exclusive' around, it bugs me. Maybe it's because I understand that competition between companies is a good thing. Simply put, if I go to a store for a product and I find out that other stores have that product and are trying to convince me to come to their store, I can take it under consideration. However, if all stores have the exact same product at the same price, there is no point in going to another store, is there?
Maybe I've worked in customer service for too long. There has to be something one store offers that the others don't. Example: Street Fighter V... I'm going to build a gaming PC within the next year. Most of the games I want are coming out for PC anyway, so I'm considering the PS4 and Xbox One less and less. If I were interested in Street Fighter, I'd be thrilled that the latest one has a PC version. Wouldn't that encourage my PC purchase over a PS4? Admittedly, it's different for everyone. Not everyone has the same plan as me, and I don't claim to speak for everyone, but this doesn't feel right to me.
It's the same with Tomb Raider. I'm going to purchase a 360 next year so I can play some games that I loved when I had one. Those games can only be played on a 360. If the new Tomb Raider is coming out for the 360 (for however long the timed deal between Square Enix and Microsoft lasts), why would I need to buy an Xbox One? Better yet, if the deal is timed, and there is potential for the new Tomb Raider to come out for PS3, PS4, and PC, why wouldn't I just wait and play it on something I already own?
These games are not 'exclusive'. They can either be played on another platform, or will only be available on certain platforms for a limited time. That is not the meaning of 'exclusive', and both the gaming media and gamers are not using properly. So I have the following questions about this console generation in general;
What is the rush to purchase them? Why is there no real incentive to purchase them?
Street Fighter. Tomb Raider. Bayonetta. These franchises are great ways to tip balances and gain more followers. What are the big companies doing?
EDIT: Thought of more questions;
Again, I understand that games need money or else they can't get made. However, what about Dead Rising 3? Or Ryse: Sone of Rome? Were those in danger of never getting made, too? Why are we (the customers) giving these companies free passes when they seem to be barely trying to interest us in their products?
