Part 1: The Mario Legions
(Note: I've linked each Legion to the corresponding Warhammer 40k chapter just in case, but fans will probably be able to deduce the inspiration on their own)
The goal here is to 40k the Marioverse. This will happen in installments, beginning with the conversion of Space Marines to Super Marios.
========
"They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them, and in the furnace of Bowser's Castle forge them. They will be of iron caps and Tanooki stone. In great animal suits shall I clad them and with the mightiest fireballs will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, glitches and power-ups so that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Koopa. They are the Defenders of Mushrooms. They are my Super Marios and they shall know no fear."
--God-Empress Peach, on the creation of her Super Mario Legions.
Ultramarios - The standard model for all Super Marios. It is from this Legion that the sacred text of the Game Manual would eventually be written. The Game Manual contains basic instructions and tactics for all aspiring Marios, no matter their stripe. Ultramarios pride themselves on their discipline and their altruistic behavior compared to their more destructive bretheren, always fighting the good fight.
Primary color: Blue.
Symbol: The noble face of the Progenitor cast in front of a great "U".
Imperial Mushrooms - Recognized as one of the most loyal of the Marios, the Imperial Mushrooms have become famous in defending the Kingdom from the villainous Bowser. Many a time has Bowser been thwarted thanks to the diligence of the Mushrooms as they have turned Peach's castle into a supreme fortress that knows no equal.
Primary Color: Yellow.
Symbol: The symbol of the Kingdom, a mushroom, within a circle.
Dark Wings - The first of all the Mario Legions, the Dark Wings are named for the intent of all Legions to follow. A dark shadow to pass across the land and strike fear in the hearts of Bowser and all his ilk, seeking retribution for all the sins committed against the Mushroom Kingdom. Steeped in tradition and armored by faith, the Dark Wings were the first to truly master the art of the legendary Progenitor, descending upon high and crushing enemies beneath their feet.
Primary Color: Dark Green
Symbol: Two wings facing outwards, with a sword in the middle.
Fire Flowers - Named after the life giving flower that brings death to the enemies of the Kingdom, the Fire Flowers bring cleansing fire to all who dare oppose them. Specializing in fiery tactics, their fireballs are more powerful than those of their fellow Mario counterparts. They use their abilities to light the massive forges that supply the Kingdom with the armament necessary for victory at any cost.
Primary Color: Green
Symbol: Fire Flower
White Stars - Famous above all else for their lightning speed, the White Stars prefer to blitz their opponents into oblivion. This deadly combination of speed and firepower allows them to take and hold objectives before the enemy has even realized the Stars have passed them by. These "speedruns" are the stuff of legend within the Mushroom Kingdom.
Primary Color: White
Symbol: Star crossed with a lightning bolt scar
Tanooki Guard - These Marios specialize in the element of surprise, and are adept at sneaking behind enemy lines and striking when least expected. Many an unsuspecting foe has been dispatched after passing a harmless looking statue...one never knows when a member of the Tanooki Guard will pop up...
Primary Color: Black and White
Symbol: A plain looking Tanooki statue. Not suspicious at all.
Iron Gloves - These faithful Marios pride themselves on their great personal defenses, laughing at the feeble attempts of their foes to harm them in their great metal armor. The metal caps of the armor is the key to their unparalleled defense. Their preferred method of warfare is to grind enemies beneath their feet in a full on assault. Numbers mean nothing as they relentlessly march ever forwards to victory.
Primary Color: Black and Silver
Symbol: The fist of the Progenitor, clad in metal armor.
Blood Wings - Infamous for their bloodthirsty nature, the Blood Wings more than any other Mario legion specialize in Death From Above. Their wings allow them to land on their enemies with extreme prejudice. Blood Wings also suffer from a rare genetic disorder, two of them in fact. The first is known as the Plumber's Thirst. This all-consuming urge consumes the Blood Wing, making them crush any enemy with pure hatred simply to draw out the blood from their enemies. The second condition is the Black Ragequit. When in this state, Ragequitting Blood Wings become even more terrifying and unpredictable opponents. One is never safe with a Raging Blood Wing around.
Primary Color: Red
Symbol: Two wings facing outwards, with a drop of blood in the center.
Space Yoshis - Undeniably loyal, yet fiercely independent, the Space Yoshis were created to be a weapon above even other Marios. Their single-minded dedication to smash any prey, like a great hammer, combined with their famed aggression and infamous behavior and rude manners have made them the most feared of all Marios. The Yoshis are dedicated to the absolute destruction of the enemy. Not a building, not a survivor. They are the executioners of the Goddess-Empress. If ever another Super Mario Legion were to go rogue, the Space Yoshis would be sent in to deal with the problem.
Like their kin the Blood Wings, the Yoshis also suffer from a genetic malady. Over time some of the Yoshis will become more and more feral, turning into savage and mindless beasts. These feral Yoshis, if they can be tamed, serve as great steeds for the Space Yoshis, allowing them to accomplish even greater feats.
Primary Color: Pale Blue
Symbol: Yoshi
