I played it and my advice would be "wait a little".
The engine has been upgraded (the hairs are way better, as facial animation, as the textures, fewer clippings or conflicts between objects and some details like this ones) and the funding is way more important than TWD1.
The first episode is just here to place the story, and even if it's a good game, you can feel the "we are selling you a licensed product". A situation is just here to show you some characters of the show (the whole Cersei and Tyrion dialogue), IMO the best parts are with the little characters created by Telltale in this ep, i'll wait for the second to see if they improve the feeling about putting some characters that aren't really needed but are good for selling the game because it's a licensed product.
It's based on the HBO show, not the books and even if the game is good, you can feel the need of Telltale to put you in impossible situations (a queen asking to meet an handmaiden in the throne room in front of the whole court... REALLY ??! A handmaiden Because she's from the north ?? Or a simple pig farmer killing two soldiers to protect his family is sent to the wall because "John Snow", nobody asking why he was abble to do this or how; no judgement, nononono... Because "John Snow" and don't wait for his lord to protect him, he don't even ask the plaintiff about his soldiers quality since they're killed by a simple farmer, no... "John Snow" is your only answer) just because they need to put characters from the show.
It's why, even if the game is good, i had a "meeeh" feeling playing it. Beside the part with the Bolton's bastard. The character is really well represented.
His a bastard and not only in the name... As in the books.
But the whole feeling about it, as you can know just reading my opinion here is "Because John Snow".
Tales of Borderlands is way better at this moment IMO.
